A couple was jailed Friday after being accused of ripping off merchandise from a local retail store.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday night, 24-year-old Zhane Katrina Richardson, of Homestead, and 38-year-old Daniel Lee Byrd, of Sunrise, walked into a major marine retail store and loaded their carts with thousands of dollars in marine speakers. The duo then ran out of the store without paying for the items, a report states.
Martin County sheriff’s deputies and Stuart Police officers responded to the incident, where store management provided “an excellent description of the suspects and the getaway car.”
The couple was soon behind bars in the Martin County Jail. Deputies soon discovered that Richardson was a fugitive from justice, wanted on an outstanding warrant for violating probation, arson and burglary, a report states.
Richardson was charged with grand theft and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and held on no bond on the warrant. Byrd was charged with grand theft and failure to obey an order to stop, according to the report.
